With a record of 13 Groups in this year's tournament the jobs of the Group Captains have never been so busy. So let's show some appreciation to the guys who organise these things. Well done !
Four of this year's teams decided to play all the matches in just on session which is brave and long (takes about 8 hours altogether). These were the teams captained by Brendan Power, Ross Reynolds, Robert Stringer and Corrie Adams.
Corrie's group finished on Sunday 18th Jan after a day long battle and featured our youngest participant 13 year old Josh Reynolds who had a good debut winning three of his seven games.
After a tight finish four players finished on 15 points.
These were:
Eamon Murphy
Simon Reynolds
Wes Connaughton
Andrew Veltom.
Eamon and Wes will progress to the knock-out phase by virtue of superior "points difference" with Eamon on +55 and Wes on +50. Simon Reynolds secured third place with +13.
Remember all runners up will be ranked by points and "points difference" and the best six across all groups will be drawn into three pairs to complete the entrants for the Round of 16, the draw for which will be held this Saturday 24th Jan at the Castle Inn Newcastle at 9pm.
Action for tonight will be at Leabeg, where Paul Gaffney's Group 13 play to a conclusion and also at Ballyloughlin where Angus Stringer's Group 7 also play to a conclusion.
Action on Tuesday 20th Jan will be at Leabeg where Tom Shortt's Group 6 will finish as will Gerry Reynolds' Group 2.
