What an exciting final !

The final of the Cyril Stringer Snooker Cup was held on Saturday 13th February at Ballyloughlin where Colin StJohn teamed up with the recently returned Clive Slevin to face Tony Walshe and Craig Newsome in the best of five frame final. The first four frames to be timed at 30 minutes and a decider to be played to a conclusion.

In the first frame some good potting from Colin StJohn gave the frame to his team by 62 to 22.

Frame 2 was a more cautious affair but in the end Colin&Clive triumphed by 55 to 27 for a 2-0 lead.

2-0

The third frame was a must-win for Tony&Craig and it started with a long passage of excellent safety play. The lead was always with Tony&Craig and they took it by 54 to 43.

2-1

Frame 4 was the tighest of the frames to date with excellent safety and potting from both teams but as we approached time-out the outcome was still uncertain. In the end some cool potting from Craig Newsome took it by a score of 59 to 42.

2-2

The fifth untimed and deciding frame started badly for Tony&Craig with a series of fouls conceded. However as the match progressed the lead changed hands with each turn. In the end, with just 15 points between the teams, and blue pink and black left on the table, Craig took the blue to narrow the difference to just 10 points and then narrowly missed pink. Clive Slevin made the diifcult pink look easy to take the frame by 52 to 41 and the match by a score of 3-2.

Congratulations to Colin&Clive on their victory and comiserations to Tony&Craig. Thanks to both teams for a terrific match.
